The border was being bombed, and people killed, just as I was crossing it.

They live in constant danger, not knowing if they can see their beloved ones the next morning.

Yet, they're high-spirited, and not in despair. They love their land, and refuse to give up hope.

However, how many of us would care? The news of the stock markets fills the front pages.

And on the day we come before the throne of God, how should we answer to His inquiries?

Deliver those being taken away to death,
and hold back those slipping to the slaughter.
If you say, “But we did not know about this,”
does not the one who evaluates hearts consider?
Does not the one who guards your life know?
Will he not repay each person according to his deeds?
